How quickly can I get an appointment?

We provide immediate scheduling options, including same-day appointments when available.

Where is Elgin Imaging located?

Our office is located in St Thomas Family Health Centre at 230 First Ave, Suite 119, St Thomas, ON N5R 4P5.

What are the office hours?

Our operating hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and Saturday from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. We are closed on Sundays.

What is an Ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a medical imaging technique using sound waves to visualize the organs and tissues in the body, including during pregnancy. It is widely used for its accuracy and minimal risk.

What does a sonographer do?

A sonographer is a certified medical imaging specialist who captures images of the body using ultrasound, which are then evaluated by a radiologist.

Why do I have to be fasting for an Abdominal Ultrasound?

Fasting is required to ensure high-quality imaging, as food in the digestive system can interfere with the clarity of the images.

Will there be Child Care available during my examination?

No, there is no child care provided on-site during examinations. Please arrange for another adult to attend with your children.

How long will the examination take?

Most ultrasound exams last between 15 and 30 minutes.

How long will it take for my doctor to get the results of my Ultrasound?

We aim to have reports ready for the ordering practitioner within two business days.

Will I get a Picture of my Baby?

Yes, we will provide you with a picture of your baby free of charge, although availability depends on the baby's position and age.

What should I do to prepare for my abdominal ultrasound?

Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your appointment. If you need to take medications, a sip of water is acceptable. Please do not chew gum.

What are the preparation guidelines before a pelvic ultrasound?

Do not eat for 10 hours prior to the exam. Drink 750 ml of water 1 hour before the exam to ensure your bladder is full.

What do I need for my OB/Dating/EFTs appointment?

Make sure to drink 750 ml of non-carbonated liquid 1 hour before the appointment to ensure your bladder is full. You may eat prior to this scan.

What preparations do I need for a urinary tract ultrasound?

Refrain from eating or drinking anything for 6 hours before your appointment. Drink 750 ml of non-carbonated water 1 hour prior to ensure your bladder is full.

What should I wear for my breast and axilla scan?

Men should wear a t-shirt or button-up shirt. Women should wear a 2-piece outfit and possibly a button-up shirt.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your Health Card to every appointment and arrive 15 minutes early. If you can't make it, let us know. Patients without a Health Card will need to pay on the day of the scan.

What services do midwives provide?

Midwives provide comprehensive care during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, including education, support, and access to medical resources.

Who can receive midwifery care?

Midwives can manage low-risk pregnancies and can also support clients with certain complications while collaborating with obstetricians.

What information is required to schedule an appointment?

To book an appointment, please provide your name, date of birth, health card number, phone number, weight, the name and location of your referring physician, and the name of the exam indicated on your requisition.

Do I need to arrive early for my appointment?

Yes, please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to complete the registration process.

What is required at the time of registration?

At registration, you need to present the requisition from your referring physician along with your health card number or insurance forms covering the exam cost. If no health coverage is available, payment can be made via cash, debit, MasterCard, or Visa at our Central location, while other locations accept cash only.

What is the procedure on picking up my images for a specialist appointment?

To request your images, please call 519-672-5270 with the patient's name, date of birth, health card number, exam, and date performed, as well as the specialist's name. A 48-hour notice is required.

Can I access my images online for my use or to share with my specialist?

Yes, through our partnership with PocketHealth, patients can access their medical imaging records online, share copies via email, burn their own CD, or copy files to a USB.

How long is my requisition valid for?

Requisitions are valid for a period of three months from their issuance by the referring physician.

Do you allow use of recording devices at LXA?

No, the use of cell phones, cameras, or recording devices is not permitted in the exam rooms.
