Why do you need to fast for an Abdominal Ultrasound?

Fasting for 6 hours before an Abdominal Ultrasound is necessary to yield good quality images. Food and air in the intestines can obscure the view of organs. After fasting, the intestines are almost empty, allowing for better imaging.

Can a patient receive a copy of his or her test results?

Yes, patients can request a copy of their test results and detailed report when meeting with their physician to discuss the exam results.
