How do I prepare for an abdomen ultrasound?

If your appointment is in the morning, refrain from eating or drinking after midnight. For afternoon appointments, you may have dry toast, black tea, black coffee, and juice until 9 a.m., but nothing after that.

What is required for a pelvis ultrasound?

You need to have a full bladder. Start drinking 3 cups (24 oz/750 mL) of fluid 1 1/2 hours before your appointment and finish 45 minutes before the appointment time.

What if I have an abdomen and pelvis combined ultrasound?

You must have an empty stomach and a full bladder. Do not eat anything for 12 hours prior, and drink 3 cups of water 45 minutes before the examination.

What are the preparations for a prostate with transrectal ultrasound?

Take a mild laxative the evening before the appointment. Drink 3 cups of water 1 1/2 hours before the appointment and finish 45 minutes prior.

Our diagnostic testing hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We are closed on Sundays.

How do I prepare for my ultrasound exam?

Preparation varies by exam type. For abdominal ultrasound, if your appointment is in the morning, avoid eating or drinking after 8 PM the night before. For afternoon appointments, light breakfast is allowed until 9 AM, but no food or drink after that. For pelvic or pregnancy ultrasounds, drink 32 oz (1 liter) of fluids one hour prior and do not use the restroom until after the exam. For prostate exams, drink 32 oz (1 liter) before the appointment and take a mild laxative the night before.

How is a vascular ultrasound exam performed?

A water-based gel is applied to the skin in the area being examined, and a transducer is guided over the skin to visualize blood vessels.

What happens if I’m late for my appointment?

If you arrive late, the technician will try to accommodate you, but if there's not enough time before the next patient, they may have to reschedule your appointment.
