What is an ultrasound/scan?

A pregnancy ultrasound or scan is an imaging test that employs sound waves to visualize the baby's development in the womb. This test is essential throughout the pregnancy to monitor fetal growth and development and poses no harm to the mother or fetus.

Do I need a full bladder?

Modern probes allow the scan to be performed with an empty bladder. However, mothers coming for their Early Ultrasound (5-10 weeks) must have a full bladder.

Can I bring family to see the ultrasound?

Yes, husbands or partners are always welcome in the ultrasound room. Family members and children are allowed, but are limited to 4 at a time.

What is 3D & 4D ultrasound?

3D ultrasounds provide surface-rendered images of the baby, while 4D is a series of 3D images that create a motion effect. It's important that the baby's face does not obstruct the view for the best results.

How accurate is pregnancy dating?

A dating ultrasound at 7-11 weeks is accurate to within about 3 days, but accuracy reduces beyond this due to fetal growth variability.

Will I get images post-scan?

Yes, several printouts and a digital link to all the videos and images captured during the scan will be provided.

Does the facility accept medical aid?

Medical aid typically covers the two diagnostic scans performed at 12 and 20 weeks.
