Yes, emergency care is always covered regardless of your network. You can visit any Hoag emergency department.

Can I keep my Hoag doctors and access to Hoag facilities?

It's possible through a Special Enrollment Period and by switching to a Medicare Advantage HMO plan that still includes Hoag.

Back Bay Imaging maintains technologically advanced facilities. All equipment is state-of-the-art and undergoes rigorous, daily quality control checks to yield the highest degree of accuracy. In addition, we conduct frequent and regular preventive maintenance checks.

What exactly does a radiologist do?

Radiologists are medical doctors who have chosen to specialize in the field of imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The most important task of the radiologist is to interpret the data from your procedure and combine that information with the clinical findings of your doctor.

Do radiologists have special credentials?

Yes. All Back Bay Imaging radiologists are board certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Radiology, having completed a radiology residency and examinations, as well as maintaining ongoing educational programs. They also hold fellowships in subspecialties.

Will the radiologist meet with me during my test?

Not always. Your primary contact will likely be with the technologist who administers your exam. Some exams require direct supervision by a radiologist, while others are done by the technologist and reviewed afterward.

What is a technologist?

A technologist is specially trained to operate diagnostic imaging equipment and position patients for the clearest images. They work closely with the radiologist to present patient histories and preliminary films and ensure patient comfort.

Do technologists have special credentials?

Yes. Back Bay Imaging employs only licensed technologists.

Will I know the results of my exam before I leave?

Generally not. Typed results are sent to your physician within 1 to 2 days. A preliminary report is usually faxed the same day.

How will I get the results of my exam?

A transcribed report will be sent to your healthcare provider within two working days, and significant findings are generally communicated to your doctor before the final transcription.

What type of clothing should I wear for my exam?

Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing like sweat pants, T-shirts, or shorts. Depending on the area being scanned, you may need to change into a patient gown.
