No, results can't be shared during the exam. A supervising Radiologist will analyze the images and a report will be sent to your doctor within 24 hours.

There are no known biological risks to humans from being exposed to the magnetic fields used in medical imaging today. The MRI exam poses almost no risk to the average patient when appropriate safety guidelines are followed. The strong magnetic field is not harmful but may pose a hazard with medical devices that contain metal.

What are the alternatives to an MRI?

Alternatives to MRI may include CT scan, bone scan, arthrography, and ultrasound among others.

What can I expect before my MRI exam?

There is little preparation for an MRI. Patients should take their daily medications unless instructed otherwise and arrive at least 15 minutes early.

What if I might be pregnant?

MRI should only be performed during the first trimester when there is a clear and urgent indication. The decision is made on a case-by-case basis.

Is transportation available?

Will I be able to drive after my exam?

Yes, MRI has no known physiological side effects, but if you have taken a sedative, there may be some restrictions.
