What are the common applications of POCUS at Highland Hospital?

At Highland Hospital, POCUS is used for diagnosing cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, vascular, musculoskeletal, and other multi-system pathologies, as well as guiding invasive bedside procedures.

What conditions can POCUS help diagnose?

POCUS can assist in identifying conditions like pleural effusion, Pneumothorax, pericardial effusion, and various organ sizes such as kidney and bladder through bedside imaging.

What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?

An elective prenatal ultrasound offers 3D & 4D imaging designed for a bonding experience between parents and their unborn baby, and should not replace a medical diagnostic ultrasound.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?

No, a medical ultrasound must already have been done to assess the fetus's health.

Is it safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?

Studies over 30 years show that ultrasound does not harm mothers or babies. 3D/4D scans use the same technology as conventional scans.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are required for all services.

How long does the 4D ultrasound take?

It typically lasts between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the package.

How far along should I be before I have a 4D ultrasound?

The best time for an elective 4D ultrasound is between the 26th and 34th week of pregnancy.

Can I bring my family and friends?

Yes, up to 5 guests can accompany you.

Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?

Yes, most of the time we can indicate the sex, but cooperation from the baby is necessary.

Is the 4D ultrasound covered by Insurance?

Currently, these ultrasounds are not covered by insurance.
