What is Ultrasound Imaging?

2D-Ultrasound imaging is a common diagnostic medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. Pre-natal ultrasound examinations are performed by trained professionals, such as sonographers, radiologists, and obstetricians.

Who Will Perform My Scan?

All our Sonographers are experienced, NHS-trained and qualified professionals, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). The principal radiographer is a senior sonographer and ultrasound trainer in the NHS.

Should I Tell My Doctor First?

You need to have registered your pregnancy with your doctor and be in an NHS ante-natal care plan. Consulting your doctor before having scans is recommended but not necessary.

Will the Scan Harm Me or My Baby?

Ultrasound has been clinically used for pregnant women for about 40 years, with no evidence that ultrasound scans pose any risk to mother or baby.

Can You Tell Me The Sex of My Baby?

We can usually identify the baby’s sex from about 14 weeks, but we recommend 16 weeks for best results. However, we cannot guarantee it due to natural variability.

Should I Still Attend My Hospital Scans?

Yes, you should follow your GP and midwife's advice and attend all scheduled hospital appointments.

What Do I Need to Bring With me to the Appointment?

It’s advisable to bring your pregnancy case notes and contact details of your midwife or obstetrician.

Do I Need to Have a Full Bladder?

YES, you should be well-hydrated in the days leading up to the scan and ensure your bladder is full upon arrival.

Can You Guarantee That I Will Get a Successful Result?

We cannot guarantee specific outcomes, as nature is unpredictable. However, we do offer a free second scan if the expected results are not achieved.

Do I Get To Take My USB Memory Stick with Photos Away With Me After the Scan?

Yes, if you purchase the optional USB Memory Stick, you'll take home all the individual pictures of the scan.

What If An Unexpected Anomaly Is Detected During The Scan?

If an anomaly is detected, we will complete the scan and provide a report, referring you back to your NHS provider.

How Long Does The Appointment Last?

Appointments typically last about 30 minutes for regular scans and up to 45 minutes for twins or fertility scans.

What Does 3D4D/HD Mean?

3D4D/HD scans show both still shots and live movement of your baby, providing a comprehensive view of your baby in the womb.
