help_outline What should the client expect when their pet has an ultrasound exam?
The client needs to withhold food for at least 8 hours before the exam, and their pet's ventral abdomen and/or chest will be shaved. It's recommended that clients do not attend the exam as it may distract the sonographer, though exceptions can be discussed.

Most echocardiograms and abdominal sonograms are completed in approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
help_outline Where should the exam take place in my practice?
The exam should occur in a room that can be darkened without interrupting workflow, such as a spare exam room, surgery room, X-ray room, or treatment area.

Generally, no sedation is required. However, if the patient is aggressive or overly anxious, injectable sedation may be administered.
